You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. UPDATE 1/17/14. Marco is enjoying his new life indoors. He is a completely normal cat that loves to eat, play, sleep, and get attention. He insists on greeting all the humans that come to visit and even likes his foster sister, a black Labrador! He warns her when she catches him off guard, but also tries to rub against her from time to time. When she jumps up on the couch or bed near him, he doesn't feel threatened or scared at all. Marco even knows his name and will come when called! He seemingly has no fear and must have known a few good people that would feed and pet him while living on the streets based on how he openly greets new people. If he wants your attention and you stop petting him he will give love bites to regain your attention. Quite the character! Marco has gained even more weight since June and is as healthy and strong as ever. He has had absolutely no health issues since he was treated with feline infectious anemia. He only uses his litter box and has never sprayed. He will test his claws on the carpet or couch, but is easily corrected. Marco needs to go to a loving indoor only home with no other cats as he will infect them with the anemia; other animals are ok since it does not cross species. Marco is a good, well behaved, fun, and loving cat. He has a great personality and would do well in just about any home. If you are interested in Marco you can fill out an adoption application at www.mitchellanimalrescue.org. His adoption fee is $25.00. Update 6/13/13: I am so happy to report that Marco is now a solid 10.8 lbs! He has gained almost 2 1/2 lbs since he was last weighed on 6/4/13. He was so thin before and is now filling in wonderfully! Marco could still gain another pound yet and stay within a normal weight range for him. I did a little research online and discovered that feline infectious anemia does not cross over to dogs, only cats through fighting.** (Dogs can also get anemia, but it's different from the cat version, according to what I read.) Feline infectious anemia can also be caused by fleas, so any cat that is not properly protected is at risk. ** It is highly recommended that you discuss this disease/infection with your own Vet if you would like to foster or adopt Marco. Update 6/9/13: Marco is doing MUCH better! He responded well to the blood transfusion and a few days later received a new antibiotic, shot of Vitamin K and iron, and fluids to further boost his health in the right direction. He ate and drank like a horse for the first few days after that and is now starting to back off a little bit. I think he's starting to relax and realizes that there will be more food later, too. He's still skin and bones, but heavier when picked up. Despite the fact that he has no reaction to my cat or dogs if they sniff at him when I open the bathroom door (his quarantine room), he cannot be exposed to other animals. I feel so bad for Marco for secluding him because it appears he would enjoy living amongst the other animals. But the risk of one of the others getting infected with the anemia is too great as it can be spread through fighting. Marco needs to go to a home where he will always be the only animal. At this point, Marco will probably only need to have his blood levels checked periodically but if he started to go "down hill" (lethargic, not eating or drinking, etc.) he would need to be taken to the Vet immediately. Marco's Vet bills have added up quickly because he was already very sick when he arrived at the pound. He will need someone that will stay on top of his health and make that a priority for the rest of his life. Marco is very friendly, but doesn't necessarily like to be held for long. I'm sure once he is able to freely roam an apt/house, he would enjoy sitting on someone's lap for long sessions of petting. He likes to talk to me quite a bit, but doesn't purr much. The very tip of Marco's nose, just the flesh part, is black, while the bridge is white. And his crossed eyes make him all the cuter! Marco has never s
