You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Gorgeous herding breed mix Gorgeous herding breed mix Update 11/12/14 Max is doing a lot better with people! He absolutely adores my neighbor (an adult female) and is becoming good friends with another neighbor (an adult male)! When kids approach or are near he no longer pees or poops, but he is still terrified of them. Last weekend we went to a free nail trimming clinic and he did phenomenal! I was right there with him but he was surrounded by three other ladies, one of whom was doing the trimming. We were all on the floor and despite being scared to death he did really really well and even gave a few kisses! Max never snaps or bites because of his fear. He just tries to escape and his most severe reaction is going to the bathroom. He LOVES other dogs and is submissive to them regardless of their size. Once he gets to know them, it's game on and he plays hard! He loves going for their legs... he is a herder after all! Max is very active! When he's not playing with my dog, he's chewing on something. Anything and everything is fair game, so inappropriate items must be put away at all times. Antlers are the best item for him! He chews on them with gusto! Max will need daily exercise to keep him from getting in trouble, as is the case with most dogs. Mental stimulation will be needed as well. The requirements for applying to adopt Max remain the same. - An established, even tempered, resident dog that will take Max under their wing to teach him the ropes, play with him, and continue to encourage him to trust people - A home with no children - A fenced in yard or leashed at all times - Someone that is familiar with herding breeds Stay tuned for more Maximus updates! Almost forgot! Max weighs 35 lbs now. : ) Update 9/9/14 Finally! An update on Max! My apologies for the delay. It's been a fun month getting to know Max. He's a great dog with a fun, puppy-like personality. He has settled into our routine very nicely. He is crated during the day with an antler and a toy that hides treats to keep his mind entertained. He gets VERY excited when I get home; it's the only time that he barks and yips. He also eats in his crate and does so voluntarily. He is constantly busy when I'm home; never stays still for long at all. He pulls a toy out of the toy box, takes it to the couch, plays with it for a bit, goes back to the box, gets another, plays tug-of-war with his foster sister (black Lab), gets another toy or chews on an antler, and so on. I think his favorite hobby is keeping the toy box empty; the floor is constantly littered with toys. He absolutely loves playing with his foster sister. He enjoys the cat as well! Luckily the cat is very dog savvy and likes Max, too. At night, we all sleep on my big bed. He has formed a strong bond with me and knows that I am safe and will take care of him. The dogs and I recently went on a road trip and Max did very well. He's a really good passenger, laying down almost the entire time. We stayed in a hotel one night and he made himself right at home. We visited a friend with a big back yard and he absolutely loved running around with his foster sister. The kids, however, scared him too much so he spent a lot of time hiding behind a chair so he could safely observe them from a distance. During our trip, not only did he rely on his foster sister, but he also relied on me for guidance and reassurance. Max is still scared of people, more so of men than women. He's also scared to death of the vacuum. I've discovered putting him in his wire crate helps a lot. But he's also shown us his fun, playful, silly side and has been a joy to have in my home. Looking forward, Max will need the following in his future home as an inside house dog only: - A fenced in yard or leashed at all times - A home with no children - Someone that is familiar with herding breeds - An established, even tempered, resident dog that will take Max under their wing to teach him the ropes, play with him, and continue to encourage him to trust people Stay tuned fo
