You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Update on Max 3-2-14 Max had a public meeting with lots of students at DWU at the Puppy Love event they hosted. He did really good. He still doesn't like fast sudden movements towards him. He doesn't like it when new people put both their hands on him at the same time until he has time to adjust to the new person. He will get grumpy when he wants people to leave him alone. If he is nervous in his surroundings he will hide until he thinks its safe to come out. For these reasons he needs to go to a home with kids older then 16 yrs old. He also needs to go to a home with no other pets or at least no big dogs. He doesn't like big dogs. He does pretty well with some dogs his size but dog introduction would be a must to make sure your dog would be one that Max would decide to like. Max will need that patient, calm owner that will give him time and space to adjust to his new home. He has warmed up well to the people he lives with but is still very cautious of new people so he will need a patient owner to let him go at his pace so he can learn to trust his new people. He does well on the leash and does good in the car too. He will need an experienced owner that can set limits for him as well. He gets very protective over his humans laps and will get cranky with other dogs if they try to invade his space while on the humans lap. Some times he needs a time out to calm down for awhile. He is somewhat food aggressive still, he can eat in the same room with other dogs but still charges some of them if he thinks they are going to try to eat his food. He loves to sleep in bed with his foster mom at night. He will sleep in his crate but prefers to sleep in bed! Can you be that patient person Max needs? More about Max- Max will need a very patient home. He takes some time to warm up to new people. Once he does warm up to you he is by your side all day long. He does ok with some dogs but would do best as the only dog in the home as he likes to sit on laps and protect his people from other dogs. He is territorial when it comes to sharing his space with other dogs including human laps, couches and his kennel space. If you do have a dog it must be a small dog because Max does not like dogs bigger than him. If you have young children Max is not the dog for you. He will nip at kids if they bug him or if he is sitting on an adults lap he will growl at kids to back off. So older considerate teenagers that will give him his space when he wants it or NO children is best. Max is house trained. He likes to go in his kennel to relax for a little while but he will bark or whine if he knows your home and he's in his kennel. He prefers to be out with his people. Once Max trusts you and is comfortable with his home he is a wonderful dog. He will give kisses when he wants. If he wants to be left alone he will let you know with a little growl, which means "I'm fine right here just let me be." He does NOT like loud noises, fast/sudden movements, he will run if he sees you with a fly swatter of other things that look like sticks. So a quiet home would be the perfect place for Max. He likes to sleep in bed at night with his family and will just curl up next to you and sleep all night.
